For best heating efficiency and to preserve the life of your flue, firebricks and baffle, NEVER burn wet wood.

Wet wood uses most of the heat it produces to dry itself before it can burn and this reduces the firebox temperature to below its efficient operating state. Burning wet wood causes excessive fouling inside the flue, requiring more frequent cleaning.

To accurately measure moisture content in wood, always split the log and probe the centre with your digital moisture meter. You ideally want around 15% - 20% moisture content.
